Eco-Friendly Clean & Refinish of a 70-Year-Old Terrazzo Floor at a US School, Reviving a Like-New Gloss

The Situation

Schools are high-traffic environments where daily foot traffic and frequent movement of desks and chairs lead to stains, scratches, and gradual floor wear. Regular floor maintenance is essential to keep campus facilities clean, safe, and presentable. To protect the health of students, teachers, and staff, eco-friendly cleaning solutions are the ideal choice.
This project covers a 70-year-old terrazzo floor at a school in the United States. Last summer, the customer cleaned and coated the floor with cleaning pads from a European brand. However, after one year of daily wear and tear, the floor has become dull and lost its original gloss.

The Solution

For this project, the customer chose EZshine Diamond Floor Maintenance Pad Pink #4 (3000 grit) from our High-Performance Series. After wet cleaning with an auto scrubber, the floor was polished with a propane burnisher and finished with the customer's proprietary Rejuvenator sealer. The result was a refinished high-gloss terrazzo floor featuring a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable finish.

Applied Process:

• Step 1 – High-Gloss Polishing: EZshine Pink #4 were fitted to an auto-scrubber for plain-water wet cleaning. Acting like routine maintenance, this step creates a clear, consistent foundation for high gloss.
  
• Step 2 – High-Speed Burnishing: With additional weight on the propane burnisher and EZshine Pink #4 applied, high-speed burnishing instantly delivered a wet-look, mirror-like shine while maximizing floor gloss.
